The Future (!) of Fuels Blending
It is getting better all the time…Both US EPA and EU are cranking out new regulations and updates (before the electronic ink is dry) every microsecond…
Did yo know that USEPA alone has over 20,000 pages of fuels regulataions alone? When you add the regulations of each one of the 50 states (e.g. CARB, NY, MA, IL, TX, etc), you are talikng over 100,000 pages of fuels regulations…
This nightmare is not limited to USA…EU, and other countries feel that they should “outdo” USA so the will be the”leaders”..
So, be prepared for blowing a couple million dollars down the drain by purchasing and maintaining compliance computer systems, with data bases controlled, in US, by the EPA (for example, for RFS2 compliance, the system is called EMTS, or EPA Moderated Transaction System, and is still not working properly, although you are obligated to use it!)…
To manage the incredible degree of headaches, it makes economic sense to use an in-line blending system, which allows you to “feed” the data US EPA wants, or similar entities in EU or …and to boot, you might be able to do in-line blend release and/or certification withour further lab testing…depending on your capability of using on-line analyzers…but more on that later.
